New this year -- Each month the PTA will say "Thank You" to our Waltrip teachers and staff. Some months this will be lunch or breakfast, sometimes with a gift. There will be Sign Up Genius's each month to bring specific items....BUT if you would rather make a cash donation that would be great too. This money will go towards needed food items, paper supplies for lunchs and gifts. Please feel free to donate as often as you'd like :) ! Thank you!

HISD has a new volunteer registration system this year. Follow steps outlined on this web page. [When I did it, steps 1 & 2 both went to the same page...?] Remember that you have to be registered as a volunteer to come into the school building during regular hours, and to chaperone field trips.

What is SDMC? Shared Decision Making Committee - comprised of the school principal, parent representative, community member representative and teacher representative. Visitors can give input but not vote. Responsibilities of the committee include: recommendations for campus level planning, school budget, school curriculum, school staffing, school improvement plan, school organization and more. Mr. Jesse Espinosa was named HISD's Sterling McCall VIP Service Teacher of the Month- April 2018! HISD School Board Trustee, Elizabeth Santos presented Mr. Espinosa with the award on Tuesday, April 3, 2018. Mr. Espinosa was also recognized by HISD Interim Superintendent Ms. Grenita Lathan for leading the Waltrip High School Band program; one of the top 5 Title I music programs in the United States. The Waltrip Band is also the Southwest Division Winners of the 2018 Inaugural Music Ed Alliance Dr. William P. Foster Project Award of Excellence, and his latest efforts allowed the Waltrip Ram Band to be finalist at the Dr. William P. Foster Project Award of Excellence and they are working to be considered for the National Award.
